OA failed during f/w update, trying to restore f/w

Tried to update a chassis with dual OA to v4.85

One OA updated fine, other one hung up during the update.  After a long while, I reseated it.  I can use the reset button to get the Health LED to go from RED to GREEN, and I can interact with recovery mode over a serial connection.

I press F to load firmware, get a DHCP IP address, and then give it the TFTP server IP & filename 'hpoa485.bin'.  It says "Downloading ROM..." and never does anything after that.  If I give it a bad filename, it will come back with an error.

Anyone done this successfully before & have any tips?  Thanks!

Custom SPP Bungle - Gen8

Hello

We are preparing a FW upgrade on Blade 460 Gen 8 and 9.

We created a Custom SPP using HP Sum (8.3.5) with the latest SPP 2018.9.0.

I added RPM packages for Gen8 and 9 (Bios ilo).

When I run the custom spp on Gen9, works fine.

When I run the custom spp on Gen8, HP sum proposed me to install bios and ilo but Nothing. I looked in the logs and I have got a signature error.

Any idea?

Re-purposing an old BL460c G6 - system hangs on any reboot

I managed to get my hands on and old unit with dual Xeon X5670 and 92GB Ram that was retired back in 2016 and stored in a warehouse. After checking out the price of a second-hand enclosure, I decided it wasn't worth it, so I bypassed the power connector and connected the system to a HX750 corsair PSU, which is capable of supplying 40Amps on a single 12V connector. I solved networking by using an USB 1GB Ethernet adapter. I found a source which claimed that you can get the unit online without Blade centre controller by switching on the number 5 switch on the unspecified System maintenance switch close to the CPU 1 socket and behold, it worked. The booting process went fairly smooth and I managed to install the Window Server 2016 without any major issues.

However, I noticed that the system hangs after any reboot, be it while exiting BIOS or restarting after the server update. System shutdown works fine. I’m guessing it is connected to the fact that I am missing the blade centre controller and the system is hung waiting on something?

My questions:

  1. Can anyone provide me with schematics/manual that describes the function of the unspecified system maintenance switch? I would like to know more, maybe I can solve my issue by disabling some feature.
  2. I am not entirely sure how to update BIOS/Firmware. I downloaded the latest BIOS update and followed the directions, but the system errors out after booting on the USB key. It launches the embedded program, but then claims that it is unable to execute commands/find the correct data.

I know that I’m not doing things by the book, but it’s either this or the scrapyard, so I would like to salvage this unit and reuse it. The server runs fine, as long as I don’t have to reboot it, which means that a remote location is out of the question.

508955-001 vs 624787-001 cooler, which one is better?

I have two coolers lying around, the 508955-001 and 624787-001 version. The 508955-001 is heavier and wider at the bottom with wider fins and visible copper heat pipes. The 624787-001 is basically a mirrored upper half of the 508955-001 - thinner fins across the board and what I assume is zinc/steel heat pipe. Any thoughts?

Converting c7000 from 3 phase to single phase power

I have a need to convert 2 c7000 chassis from three phase input power to singe phase.  My reseach tells me that this can be done simply by swapping the power module and then enter command 'Set enclosure pdu_type 1' via SSH session to the OA.  Power modules were hard to come by but finally found some from an authorized HPE parts distributor.  However, the only ones I could find that weren't refurbs are the newer intelligent power modules (p/n 666226-001).  My question is are these intelligent power modules backward compatible with all c7000 chassis?  I don't intend to use any of the intelligent features.  One of my c7000's is fairly old so I have some concerns.

Issues with new 4gb fiber switch module

Purchased a new Cisco fiber switch module, when I was insert it into a c7000 enclosure the blade gets initialized but then goes to all amber lights for the port status lights. When I insert a spf, I expect it to goto no status light and green once fiber is connected but it remains amber.

The OA does see the device although the switch does not get a Mangement IP. I setting a static ip on it and still no connectvity.

When I ssh into the enclosure and do show update I expected to see the fiber switch connected to interconnect 3 but nothing shows up?


Any suggestions? I know the enclosure works for sure as I tried it on a known working enclosure with an older fiber switch card.

HPE C7000 - Packet Loss to Bay iLO Addresses

Hi there,

I have a pair of C7000 enclosures with redundant OAs in both and the enclosure interconnect cable in place.

What I'm seeing is packet loss to the bay iLO addresses, which makes installing OSes via the iLO console rather difficult as the Blade is constantly loosing connectivity to the ISO mounted via iLO.

A ping to the OA addresses is solid, but all iLO addresses are exhibiting packet loss.

This is the same across both enclosures.

Any ideas?

Hi

Are there any known issue with VC manager software V4.01 when using the -B21.

im having issues when running the setup for the VC manager.

i have tried differant browsers and o/s but still got problems. i have -B22 running 4.45 and these work fine.

Spp - preventing reboot

Hi,

          I am deploying 100+ blades utilising SCCM. The SPP is copied locally and executed locally as part of the task sequence.

Since moving to SPP 1806 and newer i have found that utilising smartupdate.bat /s causes a double reboot - so while all SPP components are installed, it kills the task sequence. I have put in a "poor" workaround of moving it to the end of the TS for the moment.

Is there a way to prevent any and all reboots ? i havent seen a command line option for it and the doco that im reading - such as https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-a00047897en_us&docLocale=en_US has a /r switch for reboot, but doesnt seem to have a switch for preveting reboot.

Changing interconnects in C7000 enclosure

I have a question about upgrading the fibre channel interconnects in our C7000 enclosure.  Can you have two different modules side by side (slot 5 and 6) in an enclosure?

Right now we have two Brocde 4/12 SAN switches in slots 5 and 6 but need to upgrade them to Brocade 8/12c SAN switches.  Are we able to disable the existing 4/12 module in slot 5, install the new 8/12c switch, configure it and then bring it online and then do the same for the other module in slot 6?  Or do the two modules have to be match and be done at the same time?

Can we add the HP BLc NC364m NIC in the HP BLc PCI Expansion Blade

Please help to clarify if we can add the HP BLc NC364m NIC in the HP BLc PCI Expansion Blade or any other 1GbE  card is supported. Currently SS7 cards are running and we want to replace it with the 1GbE NIC.

Remote Syslog Logging facility

Hello Members,

I use the remote syslog setting for my iLo 4 boxes. It works fine..

When I use tcpdump to see the packets sent from the box with iLo remote syslog configured,

it sends the messages with facility local0 and level info.  Our syslog server caputers logs from other devices, primarily cisco, which uses the local0 facility.

Is there a way to change the facility that the messages are sent?

HP C7000 internal network with all VLANs allowed

Hi,

I am trying to create a internal network between two blades with all VLANs allowed between then. Which allows the software to control the VLAN assignment. Using Flex10/10D Virtual Connect .

I tried creating a "Ethernet network". But that did not work. Untagged connectivity works but VLANs do not.

Then I tried a shared uplink set without any ports, but I could not find a way to specify 'any-VLAN' or VLAN Tunneling when external ports are not added.

I have looked at the VC-Cookbook and the VC-User-guide to no avail.

HP C7000 Onboad Administrator absent

Hi!

I have a problem after upgrading the OA firmware: there was 2 OA (active+standby), but after flashing only one went online. The other one cannot be reached even with null-modem cable, also, there is a black screen when connecting monitor directly to this OA. Is there any way to make a hard-reset, or any other ways to understand what's the problem with this module?

HP C7000 AC redundant mode question

Hi

We currently have several C7000 enclosures which are configured as below for power redundancy, 

All are set to AC redundant, with dynamic power enabled.

PSUs 1,3,5 are on AC feed A.

PSUs 2,4,6 are on AC feed B

Tthe documentation I've reviewed states this should be 1,2,3 on feed A and 4,5,6 on feed B.

Is our current setup fully redundant, or do we need to change from 1,3,5 -> A 2,4,6 ->B to 1,2,3 -> A 4,5,6 -> B?
